Walking Through Postpartum Depression

Walking Through Postpartum Depression by Judy Dippel

We are about to go on an intimate journey together—into birth, motherhood, postpartum depression, anxiety and perinatal mood disorders. Whew!

The purpose of this journey together, is to bring you to a place of greater faith and peace, hope and healing. I commit to bring you the best of God and man (rather woman), to gently, yet realistically guide you page-by-page and step-by-step.

Most importantly, you’ll discover you’re not alone—no, you are not the only one! I and other mothers have experienced postpartum depression, anxiety and perinatal mood disorders.

You will be better able to put a name on what is bothering you, which in itself can be a huge help in walking through a trying season of postpartum depression.

And like women you may already know, stories told by health professionals, or the experiences shared by other women in your study group, a significant number of women’s experiences and symptoms parallel what you personally face today—the highly unexpected, unfamiliar, medically frustrating, psychologically confusing, downward spiral of symptoms, and turn of events, that may have begun during pregnancy or immediately after the birth of your baby—or symptoms of depression or anxiety that may have begun after the loss of a pregnancy, or after weaning your baby.

These are all time periods that you could be at risk for postpartum depression and/or other perinatal mood disorders.

Ironic as it sounds, I’m passionate about writing about the realities of postpartum depression, panic, and perinatal anxiety. This is what I endured during my own experience with a lengthy period of postpartum depression.

I pray that you, knowing that I know how you feel, will ease some of your burden. I’ve experienced it, survived it, and as I walked through it, I personally accepted Jesus Christ in my life!

Today, it’s a great privilege to come alongside you, to encourage, offer hope and assure you that what you are feeling will not last forever.

You can find hope, help and healing treatment.

You can and will get better!
